Since I was a child, I was curious about the natural world. I collected animal bones and plants in the woods. I loved going away upstate in New York and coming back to the city on the weekends. The idea of leaving and coming back from nature and the differences between those worlds influences my work. “Placing Nature” tries to examine what makes something a part of nature and what distinguishes us from it. I attempt to explore this notion by recreating scenes of nature from my imagination. I combined manmade objects with organic objects to create a landscape and a world that is neither natural nor artificial.
