A Solo Show of work by Siri Berg

From September 1 – 30, 2009, with an Closing reception Thursday, September 17th, 2009, 6pm-8pm

Due to the success of It’s All About Color I, the Broadway Gallery will be extending Siri Berg’s Solo exhibition till the end of the month.

The sumptuous paintings of Siri Berg form an anthology of color, depth and lustrous paint. Presenting a crossroads of East and West, and drawing upon influences as diverse as Orientalism, Op art, Byzantine art, and Mycenaean metalwork the exhibition explores the artist’s unique approach to painting, and collage.

Siri Berg skillfully manipulates the paint in each of her works, capturing the light and color as a continuous form. Constructing a subtle narrative in each work, she combines elements of Abstraction with texture and drawing-like marks that translate a radiant experience of spirituality and energy. The result of Siri Berg’s creative process culminates with far more than a painting or collage; the works are objects of discovery that possess a timeless, magical quality. Reminiscent of a dream voyage to another place, her works are deeply personal, evoking her own subconsciousness, while revealing universal truths about the journey and celebration of life. From poetic visions and fantasy, to symbolic elements that convey an ideology of deep sensuality and liberation, Siri Berg’s Solo exhibition addresses the viewer’s emotions on a profoundly subconscious level.

Siri Berg’s work has manifested a singular personal vision, drawing on a diverse cross-section of cultures and styles to realize her wide range of visual and conceptual ideas. She is an intuitive artist who has developed a new and unique contribution to the art and culture of her times. Her extensive travels have been a major influence, releasing her from the usual conventions of art making. Siri Berg’s method is contemplative, meditative, and serene. She maintains a fantastical, exotic vision, even when dealing with the commonplace and found objects (in the case of her industrial collages). With a bravery and experience Siri Berg’s latest work travels down many new paths, exploring new techniques and aesthetics.
