The word “transplant” can be defined several ways, but its most relevant meaning in this context is as follows: “the act of removing something from one location and introducing it in another.” Each of the artists in this show are themselves a product of this process, having relocated to live in Brooklyn from various places around the country. The work spans a multitude of themes, materials, and objectives, but the effect of living in the city is undeniably present in the kernel of all the pieces. Illustration, fine art, and photography combine in this exhibition to provide several answers to the question of how living in New York affects a person.
