Gunilla Oldenburg “Seascapes”

The Broadway Gallery NYC is pleased to announce
Gunilla Oldenburg

A solo Show

The exhibition will take place on November 1-16, 2008, with an opening reception on Friday, November 7, 2008.

Born in Avesta, Sweden, Gunilla Oldenburg was raised in a tranquil, picturesque environment along the riverside. It is perhaps her formative years spent within the rural landscape that has informed the intuitive works she creates today.

Studying abstract painting under Emilio Vedova and Zao Wou-Ki, Oldenburg’s works still retain a strong influence of Italian and Asian. The intoxicating mixture of influences and styles (from the explosive brushstrokes and texture to subtle tone and color contrasts) give the artists work an interesting combination of west and east. Her style has evolved toward and idiosyncratic mixture of poetic compositions and rhythm, with sculptural surfaces and depth.

In this exhibition Oldenburg displays a heavenly collection of Seascape paintings. The 3-dimensional paintings depict enigmatic portraits of the sea that literally rise from the surface of the canvas, pulling the viewer into the artist’s dramatic word. Her techniques are principally acrylic, gouache and a collage of different materials. However, it is with the Seascapes series that she truly utilizes her experiments with material, with the very concept and ideology of her works. In Seascapes Oldenburg uses dried sea-algae from the Swedish west coast to create profound intensity.

Oldenburg has participated in more than thirty solo and group exhibitions all over the world and is represented in numerous collections.
